Natural Healing Support for Musicians at the Ke Ola Retreat in Lanai
In early October, Master Hong and NHRF volunteers traveled to Lanai to participate in the Ke Ola retreat at the Four Seasons Koele Lodge in Lanai. In partnership with Mohala Hou foundation, which focuses on the preservation and perpetuation of Hawaiian Culture through education and the arts, the Ke Ola Retreat hosted individuals from Hawaii and other parts of the United States on a week-long journey focused on bringing together music, mana and creativity. Famed Hawaiian artist Keola Beamer, along with his wife- Kumu Hula Moanalani Beamer invited Master Hong and NHRF to share Qi Gong and Natural healing techniques with its attendees.
Master Hong and his team from NHRF taught daily workshops focusing on natural healing support for musicians and entertainers. He has treated numerous high profile musicians such as Elton John, Michael Stipe of R.E.M. and Anthony Kiedes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers for common issues experienced amongst musicians and performers. Master Hong wanted to share these powerful techniques with Hawaiian cultural artists, who contribute to spirit of Aloha and spread joy through their music, hula and other artforms.
The workshop participants were taught medical Qi Gong exercises to alleviate symptoms that are prevalent amongst entertainers. Master Hong introduced a series of breathing exercises focused on increasing breath capacity and strengthening core muscles which in turn improves the range, volume, quality and magnetism of the voice as well as improving overall health. Many students experienced improvements over the course of the four-day workshop. Master Hong also shared medical Qi Gong exercises to address repetitive motion syndrome, lower back, leg and knee pain as well as improving the functions of the eye and ear. Participants learned about healing foods that protect and nourish the voice, and food recipes that support eye and ear health.
The Natural Healing Foundation and Master Hong remain committed to supporting the Hawaiian community. What better way to do this than supporting the people who preserve the traditions of the Hawaiian Culture through improving their health and well-being? With optimal health, entertainers can more easily tap into their creative sources and use this positive energy to connect with people in a more meaningful way.
